MakeClear Lens takes the photo you upload and gives you back a clean, professionally lit version for your online listing. To do that we need a little information from you, and we want to be plain about what that is and how we look after it.
We collect as little as possible. We use one strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. We do not track you, we do not run analytics, and we do not show ads. Your photos are deleted automatically after 30 days.
The rest of this page sets out the detail. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch using the contact form on the site. We would rather you understood it than waded through legal jargon.
MakeClear Lens is an AI photo-enhancement service. You upload a photo of a car, a product, a room or a home, and you get back a clean, well-lit version ready for your online listings.
It is one service across several sites for different niches: car.makeclear.co.uk, lens.makeclear.co.uk, products.makeclear.co.uk and property.makeclear.co.uk. They are all the same service, run by us, and this policy covers all of them.
The service is operated by Elmspark Consultants, run by Kenn Jordan, based in Wexford, Ireland. We are the data controller for the personal data described on this page. We are an Irish-based controller serving customers in the UK and the EU.
If you have a question about this policy, a request about your data, or a complaint, please use the contact form on the site. You can also email us at info@makeclear.co.uk.
We keep what we collect deliberately small. Here is the full list and what each is for.
Your photos are enhanced using AI. We do this to give you a clean, well-lit image that is ready for a listing.
We keep the subject of your photo truthful. Only the lighting and the setting change, so the car, product or room you photographed stays accurate. We do not alter what the item actually is.
To create the enhanced version, your uploaded photo is sent to OpenAI's API, which performs the enhancement and returns the result. OpenAI acts as our processor for this step.
Your photos are not used to train MakeClear Lens's own models, and OpenAI does not train on data sent through its API by default.
We use one cookie, and one only. It is called "mc_sess", and it is a signed sign-in and session cookie that keeps you logged in. It is strictly necessary for the service to work.
We do not use any tracking, analytics or advertising cookies. We are not watching you around the web.
Because the only cookie we set is strictly necessary, we do not need to show a cookie-consent banner, and you will not see one. This relies on the strictly-necessary exemption under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
To run MakeClear Lens we rely on a small number of trusted third parties. Each one acts as a processor, which means they only handle your data to provide their part of the service, on our behalf and under our instructions. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your personal data. Here is what we do and the basis for each use.
We do not hold on to your images. We delete them automatically.
Some of the processors we work with, such as OpenAI and Stripe, are based in the USA. This means some of your personal data may be transferred outside the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
Where that happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to keep your data protected to the standards required under UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
You have rights over your personal data, and we will help you use them. Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR these include:
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the contact form on the site, or email info@makeclear.co.uk. We will help you sort it out, and we will respond within the time limits set by UK GDPR and EU GDPR. There is normally no charge for making a request.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your personal data, you also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. For EU users, this is the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC). For UK users, this is the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
We would always welcome the chance to put things right first, so please do consider coming to us before you complain.
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we change how the service works or which processors we use. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
We will keep it written in the same plain language, so you can always understand what is happening to your photo and your email. We encourage you to check back from time to time.
For any question about this policy, or to make a data-protection request, please use the contact form on the site. The contact email is info@makeclear.co.uk.
The data controller is Elmspark Consultants, operated by Kenn Jordan, based in Wexford, Ireland.
